The importance of seaports in the global supply chain means that a nation's ability to compete internationally is impacted by port efficiency. Despite the current increase in interest in the African continent on a global scale. The trade and business opportunities abounding throughout the continent provide great potential for all African countries. However, this fact is contradicted by inadequate transportation infrastructure, particularly in the maritime sector. This study investigates the factors that influence a container terminal’s competitiveness in Guinea-Conakry from the shipping lines’ perspectives. With the aid of the literature concerning seaport competitiveness, five (5) major influential factors were identified, which then helped to develop this study’s conceptual framework to answer the research questions. Multiple regression analysis was employed to compute the data collected from our survey respondents. The findings indicate that terminal efficiency and the quality of services are the most important factors in selecting a container terminal, followed by port charges, hinterland connections, and port location.
Mamadou Lamine Diallo, DR Anthony, Prof Reza Copyright (c) 2023 Journal of Maritime Logistics https://creativecommons.org/licenses/by/4.0 https://journal.umt.edu.my/index.php/jml/article/view/455 Thu, 28 Dec 2023 00:00:00 +0800 THE READINESS OF IMPLEMENTING A ZERO-EMISSION SHIPPING POLICY IN MALAYSIA https://journal.umt.edu.my/index.php/jml/article/view/462
The shipping industry's growth in Malaysia has led to a significant increase in ship emissions.
impacting air and marine quality and posing risks to human health, climate, and ecosystems.
To address these environmental challenges, this research paper examines the implementation of
a zero-emission shipping policy in Malaysia. Smart integration into cargo ships not only improves operational efficiency but also optimizes fuel consumption, resulting in a reduced environmental impact. In addition, it also tells the impact of the cargo revolution and cargo revolution beneficial to the existence of automatic ships. In this study, the researcher also conducted an interview session with the operation manager of Lumut Maritime Terminal (LMT), a ship captain from (MISC) company, and a Chief Engineer First Class from the Java Offshore Company. The results of the interviews will be analyzed using content analysis to identify the effects and benefits of this cargo ship revolution. Finally, this research aims to provide valuable insights to industry stakeholders, and researchers who wish to understand the dynamic evolution of cargo ships and their importance in the context of Malaysian maritime development.
Nik Nurhalida Nik Hariry, Muhammad Syazwan Ramlan Copyright (c) 2023 Journal of Maritime Logistics https://creativecommons.org/licenses/by/4.0 https://journal.umt.edu.my/index.php/jml/article/view/463 Thu, 28 Dec 2023 00:00:00 +0800 ANALYSIS OF MARITIME ACCIDENTS IN MALAYSIAN WATERS https://journal.umt.edu.my/index.php/jml/article/view/464
Throughout the South China Sea and the Malacca Strait, more than 60% of all maritime trade passes each year. The rapid growth in fleet size and ship size may lead to an increase in maritime accidents. Since many maritime accidents cause serious injuries, fatalities, damage of property and monetary losses, it is essential and crucial to discuss about marine safety. In this study, a statistical analysis was performed in order to assess the number of maritime accidents that occurred in Malaysia between 2018 and 2021, as well as the percentage of accidents that occurred in each accident category and for each type of ship. The analysis also considers the age of the ship. The data that were presented also looks into a potential relationship between the age of the ship and the accident percentage. The results demonstrate that general cargo ships were the ship categories that are most vulnerable to maritime accidents; collisions were the accident type that occurs most frequently, and there were several relationships between the accident percentage and ship age. The results may be utilized to help seafarers, related government agencies and other relevant organizations promote risk prevention, create efficient risk response plans, and establish strategies to enhance the marine mechanism for managing safety in Malaysian waterways.
Umi Syahirah Mohamed Fazlee, Mohammad Saifullah Yusoff, Nur Ruzana Mohd Rof’ie, Nurul Haqimin Mohd Salleh, Nor Hasni Osman, Mohd Azhafiz Abdullah, Kasypi Mokhtar, Lai Fatt Chuah, Awais Bokhari Copyright (c) 2023 Journal of Maritime Logistics https://creativecommons.org/licenses/by/4.0 https://journal.umt.edu.my/index.php/jml/article/view/464 Thu, 28 Dec 2023 00:00:00 +0800 NON-DIGITAL FACTORS AS A PREREQUISITE FOR THE IMPLEMENTATION OF SEAPORT DIGITALIZATION THROUGH BIBLIOMETRIC ANALYSIS https://journal.umt.edu.my/index.php/jml/article/view/465
This research conducts a comprehensive exploration of the prerequisites involved in seaport digitalization through a rigorous bibliometric analysis, with a specific focus on non-digital factors.
